Shrug is made in 2 pieces. Each half is worked from wrist to center front\back.

Shell Pattern Stitch:
Foundation Row (WS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 3, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 2, skip 2 ch, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch – V-st made, ch 2, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, rep from * across end ch 3, skip 3 ch, sc in last ch, Ch 3, turn. Row 1 (RS): *Work 5 tr in next ch 3 space – shell made, ch 2, sc in ch 1 sp of next V-st, ch 2, rep from * across, end shell in last ch 3 sp, dc in last sc. Ch 4, turn. Row 2 (WS): *Work V-st in center tr of next shell, ch 2, sc in next ch, 2 sp, ch3, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2; rep from * across, end V-st in center tr of last shell, ch 2, dc in third ch of turning ch. Ch 4, turn. Row 3: Sc in ch-1 sp of next V-st, ch 2, shell in next ch 3 sp, ch 2**; rep from * across, end sc in ch 1 sp of last V-st, ch 2, dc in third ch of turning ch 4. Ch 1, turn. LEFT HALF OF SHRUG
Starting at wrist edge of sleeve, ch 36. Work in pat st for foundation row and rows 1-10; ch 3 to turn at end of row 6. Row 11: Work 2 tr in first dc – half shell inc made, ch 2,, work in pat across until last ch 2 has been worked, work 3 tr in 3rd ch of turning ch 4. Ch 4, turn. Row 12: (row 4 of pat st) Worc dc in first dc – starting V-st made, ch 2, work in pat across until final ch 2 has been worked, work V-st in turning ch 3. Ch 1, turn. Row 13: Rep from * to ** of row 3 of pat st, end sc in ch -1 sp of last V-st. Ch 6, turn. Row 14: *Sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, V-st in center st of next shell, ch 2, sc in next ch-2sp**, ch 3, rep from * across, end last rep at **, ch 3, dc in last sc. Ch 3, turn. Row 15: Work shell in first ch-3 sp, ch2, rep from * to ** of row 3 of past st, end sc in ch-1 so of last V-st, ch 2, shell in turning ch 6 sp, dc in 3rd ch of same sp – 5 full shells. Ch 4, turn. Rows 16-24: Working even of 5 shells , rep rows 2-4 of pat st, rows 1-4 of pat st, then rows 1-2 of pat st. Rows 25-35: On next row, rep rows 11-15 of sleeve to inc to 6 full shells. Working even on 6 shells, rep rows 2-4 of pat st and rows 1-3 of pat st. Ch 21 of end of last rep of row 3 of pat st, with a separate ball of yarn, join with sl st to opposite end of last last row and ch 20.
Shape front annd back
Note: With RS of piece facing, RH edge of piece will be worked even for back, LH edge will be shaped for front. Keep pat st asestablished on RH edge and work shapig as described in foll. instructions. Row 36: Pick up lp from ch 21 and work sc in 2nd ch from hook, (ch 3, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 2, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch) twice, sc in next ch-2sp, * ch 3, sc in next ch-2sp, ch 2, V-st in center st of next shell, ch 2, sc in next ch-2sp; rep from * across existing shells, end with ch 3, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch 4; work in pat st across ch 20 – to ch 3 sps made. Row 37: Work as for row 1 of pat st – so shells made. Row 38: Work as row 2 of pat st. Row 39 (row 1 of shaping): work as row 3 of pat st, end with sc in ch-1sp of last V-st of row. Ch 1, turn. Row 40 (row 2 of shaping): Sc in first sc, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell. Work in pat across. Rows 41-47: Keeping to pat, rep shaping rows 1-2 of front edge of piece, while working straighr on back edge.
Divide for neck/shape front neck
Row 48: Sc in first sc, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell, ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell, ch 2, sc in next ch-2sp. Ch 2, turn. Row 49: Sc in ch-1sp of next V-st, ch 2, shell in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in last V-st. Ch 1, turn. Row 50: Sc in first sc, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell, ch 2, sc in next ch-2sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-2sp. Ch 3, turn. Row 51: Work shell in first ch-3sp, ch 2, sc in next V-st. Ch 1, turn. Row 52: Sc in first sc, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell, ch 2, s in 3rd ch of turning ch-3. Fasten off.
Shape back neck
Row 48: With WS facing, go back to last long row worked (row 47), skip (1sc,1 shell and 1 sc) foll last st of front neck shaping, join yarn in next ch-2sp, ch 4, V-st in center tr of next shell, work in pat across as established. Rows 49-53: Keeping to pat, work even on rem sts. Fasten off.
RIGHT PART OF SHRUG
Note: you will be working as for the left half of shrug, but reversing the shaping.With RS facing. LH edge of piece will be worked even for back. RH edge will be shaped for front. Kip pat st as established on LH edge and work shaping as described in foll instructions.
Work as for left half until row 38 has been comleted. Row 39 (row 1 of shaping): Sl st in each st to ch-1 sp of first V-st, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 2, shell in next ch-3 sp, work in pat acroos. Row 40 (row 2 of shaping): Work in pat across until last V-st has been completed, ch 2, sc in ch-2sp foll last shell. Ch 1, turn. Rows 41-47: Keeping to pat, rep shapingrows 2 and 2 on front edge of piece, while working straight on back edge.
Divide for neck/shape back neck
Row 48: Work in pat across until 4 V-sts have been completed, ch 2, sc in next ch-2 lp. Ch 4, turn. Rows 49-53: Keeping to pat, work even on rem sts. Fasten off.
Shape front neck
Row 48: With WS facing, go back to last long row worked (row 47), skip (1sc, 1 shell, 1sc) foll last st of back shaping, join yarn in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell, work in pat across as established. Row 49: Sl st in each st to ch-1 sp of first V-st, sc in same ch-1 sp, ch 2, shell in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in next V-st, ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp. Ch 1, turn. Row 50: Sc in next ch-2 sp,ch 3, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell. Ch 1, turn. Row 51: sc in ch-1 sp of V-st, ch 2, shell in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 52: Sc in first sc, ch 2, V-st in center tr of next shell, ch 2, sc in last tr. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew or croched last rows on back of shrug halves tog to form center back seam, Join sleeve seams and foundation ch edges of front and back of eachhalf tog to form the side seams).
Sleeve edging – Rnd1: with RS facing, join yarn with sl st at seam and work 24 sc around wrist edge, join with sl st to first sc. Rnd 2: *Sc in next sc, skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc, skip 2 sc; rep from * around, , join with sl st to first sc. Rnd 3: *Sc in next dc, (ch 3, sc in next dc) 4 times, rep from * around, , join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Shrug edging – Rnd 1: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in first ch-1 sp of V-st on last row of right front neck,work 34 sc to center back seam and 34 sc from center back seam to ch-1 sp of V-st on last row of leftfront neck, work 42 sc along shaped edge of left front to side seam, 24 sc from side seam to center back of lower edge, 24 sc from center back to next side seam, 42 sc along shaped edge of right front, , join with sl st to first sc.
Collar: Working back and forth with ch 1 to turn at end of each row, work 5 more rows of sc along 68 sts oof neck. Dec (work 5C2tog) 4 sts evenly spaced on each row – 48 sc. Next rnd: Sc in each row along side edge of collar, sc in each sc around edge of shrug, sc in each row along rem side edge of collar, join with sl st to first st. work rnds 1 and 2 of sleeve edging along collar and around entire outside edge of shrug. Join with sl st to first st. Fasten off.
